It never ceases to amaze me....

Posted by Mark Monday, February 20, 2012

I saw this on Moldy Chum and thought I would pass it along. If you see anyone doing this report them and then slap them upside the head please.

Oregon State Police are reporting that there are some idiots on the Rogue catching wild steelhead, clipping their adipose, then releasing them so the next person to catch the fish can keep it as a hatchery fish.

It's not just happening on the Rogue.

While somewhat isolated now on the Rogue, the practice has been more pronounced on the nearby Umpqua River, where no wild steelhead can be kept.

Jail time and heavy fines await anyone caught clipping wild steelhead.

  2. That’s pretty industrious I might say...It amazes me that there are so many gear chuckers fishing on weekdays on the Umpqua that if they put half of the energy into finding a job that they do trying to game the system we might have an economy again. Interestingly I found a filleted native carcas at the bend pool last week so it’s not just the gear guys doing it....
